American officials here have been most helpful in arranging for the transportation of the first contingent of 200 Jewish children and 50 adults who are emigrating from France to Palestine, it was revealed today by David Sealtiel, representative of the Jewish Agency executive.
The emigrants are expected to leave France before the end of the month. The Joint Distribution Committee is financing the transportation. The 200 children are either orphans or have relatives in Palestine. The Youth Aliyah has arranged for their reception and maintenance upon their arrival in Palestine.
A Palestine Immigration Office was opened here today and also an office for child and youth emigration, Mr. Sealtiel announced. These offices will closely co-operate with the Hias-Ica Emigration Association, which is handling Jewish emigration affairs. Mr. Sealtiel was sent to France by the executive of the Jewish Agency to re-establish contact between the Agency and French Zionists and to assist in the resumption of Jewish emigration to Palestine.
