The Post Office Department will issue a special postage stamp for the coming Christmas which will bear the figures of the Madonna and Child.
Post Office officials said that a “Madonna and Child with an Angel” painting by the Flemish painter Hans Memlino, which is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, was chosen this year to be reproduced on the special Christmas stamp. It was said that this is not the first time that the Christmas stamp bears a religious symbol. Last year the Christmas stamp bore a reproduction of a painting of the Angel Gabriel with a horn.
