The State Department said today that it has protested to the government of Algeria for permitting the Voice of Palestine Radio there to exhort Arabs to kill Americans. State Department spokesman Charles Bray said the U.S. would make similar representations to other governments allowing such broadcasts.
Bray said the VOP radio called on Arab masses to strike everywhere at United States interests and embassies and kill and assassinate everyone who is American.” He said “We obviously must take a most serious view of broadcasts of this kind which he called “irresponsible.” They followed yesterday’s commando raid by Israel on terrorist headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon and charges by the Palestine Liberation Organization that the U.S. had assisted Israel in carrying out the action.
Bray reiterated the State Department’s dental yesterday of U.S. complicity in the raids. He said the allegations were “totally without foundation, totally false and totally irresponsible.”
The State Department said today it had no official information on press reports that Libya was preparing to turn over 60 French Mirage jet fighter-bombers it has purchased from France, to Egypt. He suggested to reporters however that they might question the French government on the legalities of such a transfer.
