A call to the Soviet Union to admit an American Jewish spiritual commission into the Communist countries of Europe to devote itself to the humanitarian and spiritual needs of the Jews there was voiced here yesterday by Rabbi David B. Hollander, president of the Rabbinical Council of America, at the seventh annual mid-winter conference of the Orthodox group, which is attended by 300 rabbis.
“The free world cannot stand idly by while 2,000,000 Jews are completely eradicated behind the Iron Curtain,” Rabbi Hollander said. “Russia can show its good faith by permitting religious articles and other items to be brought into the country, particularly now with the approach of the Passover holidays.”
