The Rabbinical Advisory Council of the United Jewish Appeal approved a resolution at the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds 43rd General Assembly calling upon the American rabbinate “to lead the American Jewish community in recognizing that the needs for the survival of the people of Israel and their human needs constitute our first priority now.”
In a resolution signed by Rabbi Hillel Silverman, the Council chairman, the UJA Rabbinical Advisory Council said: “We call upon our colleagues in the American rabbinate to involve themselves even more deeply in the sacred work of their respective Federations (because) we are convinced that the welfare of the people of Israel now bangs in the balance.” The resolution continued: “We invite the leadership of each Jewish Federation and Welfare Fund in America to utilize the resources of the American rabbinate to its fullest extent.”
