The U.N. Security Council may discuss the security situation in Palestine if Arab violence develops during the week, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
The Trusteeship Council, by a vote of 9 to 1, today approved the immediate designation of a working committee to draft a trusteeship agreement for the internationalization of the City of Jerusalem in accordance with the decision on partition taken by the Assembly last Saturday. Iraq was the lone vote against the resolution which was proposed by the U.S. delegate.
The Council’s president, Francis B. Sayre of the United States, said a special session of the Council would probably be held early in 1948, to consider the proposals drawn up by the working committee. The committee will be composed of representatives of five or six nations named by Secretary General Trygve Lie.
The U.N. Secretariat was today selecting a staff of about sixty persons to be sent to Palestine with the five-nation implementation commission which was appointed last Saturday. The commission is expected to leave in about a fortnight.
