Israel Ambassador Abba Eban today said that as a result of a series of talks with various high officials in the State Department he is now in a position to give the Israel Government “a very clear picture on how the United States is thinking” on a great variety of subjects.
The Ambassador made his statement following a conference yesterday with Assistant Secretary of State Henry A. Byroade, who is in charge of Near Eastern affairs. This conference rounded out a series of talks Mr. Eban has had with State Department officials prior to his scheduled departure for Jerusalem for consultation with members of the Israel Government.
In his statement today Ambassador Eban emphasized that “the whole field of common interests” between the United States and Israel was reviewed by Mr. Byroade and him “in a very detailed and very friendly spirit.” He expected to leave for Israel this week-end after speaking tomorrow at the U.N. General Assembly on Israel’s stand on the Korean armistice.
