A strong statement on the U.S. commitment to Israel in case of an Arab attack was urged today in the House of Representatives by Seymour Halpern, New York Republican. Speaking on Soviet Premier Khrushchev’s visit to Egypt and his increasing military support to Egypt, Rep. Halpern said that this now “unflinchingly means that peace in the Middle East becomes less of a surety.”
“Nasser will never surrender his war on Israel if he can lean upon the support of a great power,” Rep. Halpern continued. “The Colone will continue to play one side off against the other, and his own adventures can continue unchecked.”
