The United States Government was urged today to convene a conference of Middle East Foreign Ministers for the purpose of stabilizing the political situation in the Middle East in relation to Israel and to plan the defense of the area as a whole.
The suggestion was made by Judge Samuel S. Leibowitz, addressing a special Histadrut conference at the Hotel McAlpin here under the auspices of the United Organizations for Israel Pioneers – a division of the $10,000,000 Histadrut campaign in this country.
The speaker also called for United Nations intervention in Iraq “to prevent the brutal execution of thousands of Jews in the Moslem lands.” He said that “the situation in Iraq today could have given Hitler some pointers in Jewish persecution.” Congressman Emanuel Celler told the gathering that bills for a $150,000,000 grant-in-aid to Israel will be introduced in the House and Senate after the Easter recess.
