U.S. Vice President Al Gore met with Israeli Trade Minister Natan Sharansky in Washington to discuss Middle East peace efforts. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly dispatched Sharansky to try to convince the Clinton administration not to publicize a new Middle East diplomatic initiative. Sharansky, who is slated to press congressional leaders on the issue, also continued talks with Gore on Iranian efforts to develop ballistic missiles with help from Moscow.
