Paul Zuckerman, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, has reported that members of the UJA executive committee, meeting on a recent four-day Miami re-treat, had succeeded in building a climate of confidence for the 1975 campaign.
He said that the unprecedented 1974 campaign. during a year of war and bloodshed, demonstrated Jewish unity and that the federations and welfare funds and all the American Jewish committee “measured up to their responsibilities.” He said that at this early stage, the executive committee members, representing 22 cities, “gave leadership to the 1975 campaign by their exemplary giving,” with announcements larger than the “outstanding contributions during the Yom Kippur War.” He said the committee had urged that this pattern be followed by every community.
Zuckerman said the task of absorbing new immigrants from the Soviet Union and elsewhere, of improving conditions and upgrading the quality of life for the people of Israel has just begun.
