Ukrainian youths attacked a rabbi and tried to break into a Jewish school. Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm was attacked in the yard of his shul on Monday evening in the city of Zhitomir, in central Ukraine. Synagogue guards and local community members held off the unidentified attackers. The same day, a group of youths tried to break into the dormitory for girls at a local Jewish school, hurling verbal insults at the students. Police are investigating. Wilhelm told JTA the attacks were not the first acts of anti-Jewish violence in town. Two years ago Wilhelm was verbally assaulted and beaten on one of the city’s main streets.
