The ultra-orthodox wing of Polish Jewry under the leadership of rabbis will assert itself on the political arena at the forthcoming national elections to the Polish Sejm, it was learned today following a closed conference of East Galician rabbis.
The conference, whose participants are not members of the Orthodox World organization. Agudath Israel, was called chiefly to deliberate on ways and means to oppose the planned democratization of the kehillahs in Eastern Galicia as is contemplated in accordance with a recent government decree extending to Galicia the provisions of the Pilsudski decree which was previously valid only for Congress Poland.
The Agudah, which allied itself with other Jewish political groups during the last elections, was severely criticised by the leaders of the ultra-orthodox wing.
The conference it was stated, decided to create an extreme right orthodox party which will not join the minorities bloc in parliament. The leaders plan to unite with the assimilationist group in the elections.
Leaders of the conference asserted that they have the support of the Polish authorities as the government is dissatisfied with the policy of the Agudath Israel, which stands with the all-Jewish bloc.
