As soone as the disesaster occurred. Colonel Symes saia. the Goverment had turned its amention to relief under the first stage. and that work was still prosecding. Every possible assistance was being given to the Local Committees and the necessary monies were being provided. Visits of In## had beet paid to the villages. An appeal had been issued by him and had been given the widest publicity a##, as well as in Palestine.
The second stage would soon be reached. It was desirable that as many ## as possible should be made ##table before the rainy season. With regard to the third stage. it was mainly a matter of funds and credits. It was for the Credits Committee. under the chairmanship of S. S. Davis, the Treasurer of the Palestine Government to examine the question and make recommendations. It was too early to tell the extent of the form of the financial assistance which would he required: but it was clear that some central organization was needed not only to collect and pool all the avullable funds. but also to direct and coordinate the work of relief. That was why the General Relief Fioard with its four separate Committees. had been fermed. It was not imerded to interfore with. but on the contrary to eneourage. the admirable work performed by the Local Committees.
The Chairman mentioned the generous donation by Nathan Strans and expressed the appreciation of the Government of this timely gift which had provided funds for relief at a time when most urgently needed.
