Numerous trials of Dutchmen reported by the Nazi-controlled Dutch wireless prove the existence of a widespread underground opposition to the German occupation, Dutch circles claimed today.

Several cases have been reported in recent weeks of Dutchmen sentenced to heavy prison terms for inciting Dutch soldiers to escape to England to continue the fight, for instigating opposition to German commands, and for disrespect for the German authorities and army.

According to Dutch sources, the Germans, who have been trying to win over the Netherlanders by a policy of going easy, are now compelled to show an iron hand in order to force the Dutch to cooperate.

How thoroughly the Nazis are trying to cut off the Dutch from all foreign contacts is revealed by a broadcast warning of the most dire penalties for anyone permitting the release of carrier pigeons.
