The thirtieth Biennial Council of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations will be held in Cleveland from January 16th to 20th, it was announced today. Fifteen hundred delegates, including Rabbis and lay leaders from all parts of America are expected to confer on matters relative to the advancement of liberal Judaism in America.
The National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods and the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods will also hold their biennial meetings at the same time.
The convention will be held at the Hotel Cleveland. The sessions will open with the meetings of the Executive Boards of the Union, the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, and the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods. The business sessions of the Council will start on Monday morning, January 18.
Matters affecting the future of liberal Judaism in America will be discussed at the conference. Outstanding among these will be the financial state of the Union. It was recently announced that this year the Union of American Hebrew Congregations is facing a serious financial crisis, the income of the organization having proved inadequate to meet the demands made upon it. The work of the Union for this reason, faces the possibility of immediate and disastrous curtailment, it was stated. The Council will take up this situation and endeavor to devise a plan of counteracting it.
