The Hudson County branch of the League of Friends of New Jersey has lodged a protest with Governor Moore against an alleged “invasion” by Hoboken officials of the rights of free speech.
The “invasion” against which the Nazi unit of this city is protesting occurred last Tuesday night in Hoboken where the “Friends” had scheduled a meeting with the announced purpose of denouncing the boycott of German goods. A permit for the rally had originally been granted, but when objections were received, principally from the Jewish war veterans of Hoboken, Mayor Bernard M. McFeeley withdrew the permit. The “Friends” then returned to their headquarters here and held the meeting.
Although this rally was supposed to be primarily a protest against the boycott, it was learned from a reliable source that a feature of the meeting was an address by Harry Woisin, chairman, in which he made the following remark:
“Stick to us as you have so far and we will chase the Jews out of the country.”
