The United Hias Service migration and resettlement program was highly praised by Dr. Francisco Urrutia Holguin, South American representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, at a meeting of the American Council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service devoted to Latin America.
Dr. Urrutia emphasized that even a few unsatisfactorily handled migration cases can have an adverse affect on a Latin American country’s entire immigration policy. In this connection, he paid tribute to the effective United Hias Service program. Through the excellent reputation of the agency, it is readily able to obtain visas he reported.
James P. Rice, executive director, and Ilja M. Dijour, director of Research and Statistics, represented United Hias Service at the ACVA meeting. Israel G. Jacobson is the agency’s director of Latin American Operations. During the past five years. United Hias Service has assisted more than 7, 000 Jewish migrants to resettle in Latin American countries.
