A crisis has arisen within the United Israel Appeal of the Netherlands over the inclusion of the Dutch OSE in a combined campaign with the Jewish National Fund and the Keren Hayesod.
Since the OSE last year conducted a separate campaign which raised 50,000 guilders, the Jewish Agency in Jerusalem has refused to include it in this year’s combined drive. At the same time the Agency refused to forbid the OSE from carrying on an independent campaign. While the national funds have refused to hold a combined campaign, the board of the Dutch Zionist Federation has threatened to resign and convens an assembly to organize a united campaign.
(In London, Dr. Hans Klee, member of the OSE World Organization, expressed the opinion that the entire dispute is “regrettable,” particularly since three-quarters of the 50,000 guilders was raised from non-Jewish sources sympathetic to OSE work. He pointed out that at any rate 35,000 of the 50,000 guilders was used to equip children’s homes in the Jewish state.)
