The social committee of the U.N. Economic and Social Council today adopted a resolution providing for election by the General Assembly of a High Commissioner for Refugees.
The resolution was adopted by nine votes in favor, none against and six abstentions–Britain, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Pakistan, and India. It will go to the next General Assembly, after approval by the Economic and Social Council.
