A call to major shipping, aviation and trading companies in all parts of the world to refuse to comply with Arab states’ blackmail and blacklisting activities in their economic war on the State of Israel was voiced here today by M. Bartur. Israeli delegate to the 11th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Mr. Bartur urged the governments of such non-complying firms to back them and thus help ease tension in the Middle East.
Mr. Bartur noted that the Arab boycotts and blockade violated the UN Charter and in the case of the Suez Canal blockade also clashed with international maritime practice, with an international treaty and with a Security Council resolution. The Israeli delegate warned that the Arab states would only make new and increased blackmail demands upon companies and governments which acquiesced in the campaign against Israel.
