United Palestine Appeal Agencies Spent $63,297,000 During War Years, Report Says

A total of $63,297,000, exclusive of loan repayments, was spent by the agencies of the United Palestine Appeal from the outbreak of World War II to March 1, 1945, for immigration, settlement, agricultural and industrial development, recruiting, and aid to the armed forces, including assistance for Dependents of servicemen, Rabbi James G. Heller, national chairman of the UPA, announce today.

Among the major expenditures were $5,804,000 for immigration and relief; $35,524,000 for the establishment of new agricultural settlements and for the acquisition and reclamation of new land areas to increase food production for military and tivilian needs; $7,676,000 for enlistment, internal security, and aid to soldiers’ families; $2,874,400 for urban settlement and aid to trade and industry; $3,844,000 for labor and housing, $1,432,000 for education and culture, and $368,000 for religious affairs.
