The Institutum Judaiecum, established at the University of Berlin by the famous German scholar, Professor Hermann Leberecht Strack, was formally opened today in the presence of the University Faculty and Government officials.
The purpose of this Institute is to study the past-biblical history of the Jewish people and issue a number of scientific works on that subject. State Secretary Becker, who represented the German Ministry of Religion and Education pointed out, in his speech, that Judaism had the greatest influence upon the culture of Western Europe. Professors Guttmann and Torczyner, representing the Academy for Jewish Science and the College for Jewish Learning, were also present and promised their cooperation in the work of the Institute. A library of 4,000 volumes which formerly belonged to the late Professor Strack, will be part of the new Institute.
