University of Illinois Offers Kosher Food to Jewish Students

Pursuant to a suggestion first made by a visiting British scientist here, the 3,000 Jewish students on the University of Illinois campus will be offered kosher food here for the first time in the university’s history.

The lack of a kosher eating place here was pointed out recently by Prof. Joseph Wolf, of London, a Jewish scientist, who publicly expressed regret at the lack of such facilities on the campus. Today, it was announced that the Chicago Rabbinical Council has appointed a special committee to help provide kosher eating facilities here.

Rabbi Moshe Litoff, of Chicago, and Rabbi Hirsch Cohen, director of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation, have completed the plans for the kosher eating place, which, they said, will be ready for service by next February. The Chicago Rabbinical Council will advance the funds to endow the kosher kitchen.
