An unprecedented event in Washington Square Park is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12. This event will be a Yiddish Folk Fest, to be performed entirely by young folk artists, groups and ensembles. The event, which will be sponsored by the Workmen’s Circle, will include work and radical songs, songs of the Jewish Resistance, folk and theatre songs. Hassidic motifs as well as original folk rock compositions, all in Yiddish, will also be presented. At the conclusion of the fest, there will be a “zingeray” or “sing-along.” The Education Department of the Workmen’s Circle reports that this fest is in keeping with increased interest towards Yiddish language and culture, especially among the youth.
