A direct appeal to Jewish children to come and register in the Jewish religious schools of their neighborhood is now being made by the Jewish Education Association through a series of children’s rallies, which are held in neighborhood theatres throughout the city.
On Sunday, October 26, 1,200 children were gathered at the Forum Theatre, 490 East 138th Street. Moving pictures on biblical themes, community singing, and simple addresses, in which the importance of religious training was explained to the children, constituted the program of this gathering. The Machzikei Talmud Torah and the Bnailsrael Talmud Torah co-operated with the Jewish Education Association in arranging this gathering.
On October 19, a similar gathering was held at the Dyckman Theatre, 207th Street and Sherman Avenue. The Hebrew School of the Inwood Congregation participated in the arrangements.
“While we have been fairly successful in our appeal to the parents” stated Mr. Bernard Semel, the Chairman of Publicity and Propaganda. “still we find that our direct appeal to the children is much more effective.”
