German Jews are gripped by a powerful psychology of fear and are completely without hope, according to Rabbi Lawrence Schwartz, head of the White Plains Jewish Community Center, who is back from Germany, where he spent most of the Summer visiting relatives.
“The thing we in America can do,” he declared, “which will help most of all is to persuade our government to allow some of the German Jews to enter our own country. I do not ask that we open wide the doors of immigration while we have so much unemployment here. But if we admit only a few that can be allowed within the unfilled quota, it will bring new life and hope to all Jews in Germany.”
