Jewish travelers were severely maltreated on trains in Rumania and one Jewish passenger was thrown off a moving train last week, it is reported in the Lupta, one of the important daily newspapers published here.
The paper reports that a number of people visited the editorial office and related in detail the acts of violence committed on trains entering and leaving Bucharest. Most of these acts took place April 13 and 14, the paper states.
STUDENTS NOT HELD
According to the testimony of the eye-witnesses the anti-Semitic students who attacked Jewish passengers in the trains were not detained by the railway authorities.
Among the eye-witnesses are many non-Jewish passengers who declare that they were helpless to interfere on behalf of the Jewish victims, because they feared that they too would be attacked.
The Lupta, an independent progressive newspaper, demands an immediate investigation by the authorities into the facts conveyed by the eye-witnesses, to establish not only the identity of the guilty students but also of the railway officials who permitted the attacks on the Jewish passengers. A special investigation is demanded with regard to the Jewish traveler who was thrown out of the moving train.
