Action against the anti-Shechita bill now before Parliament was urged at the meeting of the Board of Jewish Deputies at its meeting here. If the House of Commons adopted a measure against Shechita, it was pointed out, it would encourage the anti-Semites in other countries.
The Chairman of the Board reported that the Home Secretary had disagreed with the attitude of the Board that the deportation of aliens and old residents from Great Britain caused intolerable hardships The Home Secretary, it was added, held out no hope for the alteration of the law.
Particulars of the work of the Joint Foreign Committee in connection with the fight on the Numerus Clausus in Poland and the situation of the Jews in Roumania, as well as the position of the minorities in Esthonia, Latvia, were reported on. Lucien Wolf, it was announced, is proceeding to Geneva to watch Jewish interests at the seat of the League of Nations Council.
The Board also appointed a committee to investigate the Edmonton cemetery affair, at which the municipality councillors gave vent to a number of anti-Jewish remarks.
