A number of Jewish immigrants ## Chile entered the country as agricultural workers.
Bunge issued a statement asserting that the refugees are working as “commercial intermediaries” and competing for the business of established firms. The commissioner also charged that the refugees were leasing apartments at exorbitant prices, ?eating a situation of “real strangulation.” However, the report from Santiago points out that the economic crisis in Chile is a result of the government’s “responsible policy of over-industrialization.”
