Israeli authorities have passed on to appropriate American agencies full details of Sunday’s flight by two Soviet MIG-23s into Israel-controlled air space, it was learned today. The data was said to include the speed, altitude and flight path of the supersonic jets. It was the first flight by Soviet planes within the perimeter controled by the Lydda Airport traffic control tower. Some military sources here said today that the penetration constituted an adverse factor against Israel in the Middle East power balance, Sources here said the data concerning the MIG-23a was of vital importance to the US inasmuch as no American plane in service or production can match the speed and altitude capabilities of the Soviet interceptor.(See separate story P. 3 on US response.)
