Vacationing teachers constitute more than one-third of the 73 Americans taking summer courses at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem conducted by the American-Israel University Program under the auspices of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, it was reported today by Prof. Oscar J. Janowsky and Dr. Henry Sonneborn, co-chairmen of the program.
In addition to 28 college, high school and elementary school teachers, the participants include 12 graduate students, 18 college undergraduates, as well as members of various professions, including the ministry, rabbinate, social work, law and business. The summer courses which were inaugurated in 1965, are given in the English language.
With the completion of registration for the summer courses, the America-Israel University Program has sent 209 American students to the Hebrew University for 1966-67. Of these, 136 are in the One-Year Study Program for college juniors and recent graduates. Among the courses of instruction included in the summer program are Biblical History and Archaeology, Contemporary Hebrew Literature, Education in Israel, Sociology of Israel, History of Jewish Art and Contemporary Jewry.
