In Warsaw, Lvov, Krakau, Lodz, Vilna, Bialystock, Kattowitz, and in scores of other towns and hundreds of townlets throughout Poland, protest meetings were held simultaneously.
Punctually at five o’clock in the afternoon, all Jewish shops, restaurants and cafes in the non-Jewish as well as in the Jewish quarters were closed. All the synagogues were overcrowded with fasting worshippers, who listened to the sermons of Rabbis of the Agudah and Mizrachi leaders. Collections were made for the relief of the numerous refugees streaming into Poland.
Literally, hundreds of protest meetings have been organized by a National Protest Committee, and various other organizations.
Under the influence of today’s demonstration, various Jewish merchan### have announced the cancellation of ###ders of German goods.
In Warsaw, a demonstration composed of Jews and Christians proceede to the German Embassy and raised cries of “Down with Hitler”. The demonstrators were dispersed by the police, and the German Consulate and Embassy were subsequently put under a police guard, and no other demonstrators were allowed to approach them.
At the main Warsaw railway station, a spontaneous and most enthusiastic manifestation developed on the occasion of the departure of 645 Polish Jews for Palestine. This is the largest group leaving Poland this season.
