One hundred veterans of the battle of the Warsaw Ghetto today established their own settlement in western Galilee, north of Acre. The settlement was named “Ghetto Fighters.”
Establishment of the settlement coincided with the sixth anniversary of the revolt in Warsaw. Two thousand guests, including high-ranking Army officers, representatives of the government, Histadrut and other groups, were present at the dedication ceremonies.
Dr. Adolph Berman, head of the Jewish Central Committee of Poland, who flew here to participate in the Ghetto battle commemoration services, was one of the principal speakers. He called on Israel to “fulfill the objective for which the Ghetto fighters fell–namely, the preservation of world peace.” He said that Israel “could carry out this objective by participating in the new peace conference now being organized in Paris.”
