Local police yesterday rescinded a permit which would have allowed a Nazi meeting to be held last night in Oakley Hall. The action was taken on complaint of the Jewish War Veterans, Reuben Kaufman Post No. 36, of which Albert M. Dorfman is commander, and State Commander Nathan Rabinowitz, who lives here. The veterans opposed the meeting because disturbances, that have characterized similar meetings held in Union City and other northern Jersey cities, were feared.
The use of Oakley Hall for the Nazi meeting had been granted to Paul Reiffen, of 159 North Fifth street. Circulars were distributed advertising the rally of the “Friends of New Germany.” According to them, the meeting was to have been addressed by W. Brink, in German, and W. L. McLaughlin, editor of the Deutsche Zeitung.
