The hope that the difficulties that today face the Zionists in regard to Palestine as a result of the issuance of the recent new declaration of British policy would be satisfactorily settled was expressed in a message by Vice-President Charles Curtis to the New York Zionist Region, made public here today by Jonah J. Goldstein, to whom it was addressed.
It had been expected that the vice-president would be able to attend the Maccabean festival which will be held by the New York Zionist Region at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, December 13th as “a demonstration of Zionist sentiment and solidarity” combined with a celebration of the traditional Chanukah festival.
The message, addressed to Mr. Goldstein, chairman of the Maccabean Festival, of which Nathan Straus is honorary chairman, reads as follows:
“I have your kind invitation of recent date and regret very deeply a previous engagement prevents me from attending the Maccabean Festival to be held on Saturday evening, December 13th.
“I wish you would extend to those who attend my best wishes for their success in rebuilding the Jewish National Homeland.
“Hoping all difficulties in regard to Palestine will be satisfactorily settled, I am,
“Very sincerely,
“(Signed) Charles Curtis.”
