Leaders of the Vienna Jewish community today adopted a resolution requesting the Israeli Government for permission to send a special delegation when the remains of Theodor Herzl, founder of modern Zionism, are flown to Israel for reburial. Tentative date of the transfer is set for Aug. 10. The present Herzl grave is at Doebling cemetery, outside Vienna. At the same meeting, the Jewish community here voted to purchase the Doebling grave for conversion into a national shrine.
Dr. Herzl’s coffin will be removed from Doebling cemetery and, with an honor guard of ten Israeli soldiers, will be flown to Israel from the Tull Air Base in the U.S. zone for reburial. A delegation of Israeli Government officials will come here to witness the exhumation.
