Memorial services were held by the Vienna Jewish community here today for the late Austrian President Adolf Schaerf, who died here yesterday at the age of 75.
One of the leading fighters for democracy in Austria, Adolf Schaerf was an ardent fighter against Nazism, and was arrested a number of times during the Nazi occupation of Austria. After World War II, he fought against neo-Nazism. He was one of the foremost supporters of demands here for restitution for victims of Nazism.
