The Austrian government has notified the Vienna Jewish Communal board that it finds it impossible to postpone the date of the state elections from April 24.
The board requested the government to postpone the elections because the date coincides with the last day of Passover, when the Jewish voters will be unable to go to the polls because of the memorial services which are held on that day.
The authorities stated that the holding of the elections on April 24 is a state necessity and expressed the hope that Jewish voters will not be prevented from exercising their franchise as the casting of the vote will not require writing or travelling.
