A Rabbinical Council of America committee reported at the 22nd annual convention of the Orthodox rabbis today that all Jewish religious and community groups should be “ever alert” to preserve such “religious liberty.”

The committee termed “highly disturbing” breaches of the separation principle being made “by extending a variety of privileges and benefits to religious bodies in the school curriculum, teaching and social programs.”

Another committee, in a report to the convention, recommended that “the American military establishment give full legal and social recognition to the Sabbath as a holiday of religious significance for Jews. ” The committee declared it would be “comparatively easy” for U. S. military leaders “to grant a large degree of acceptance” for Jewish military personnel to some of the major practices of Judaism, including the Dietary Laws.
