Vladimir Putin acknowledged Israel’s desire for peace during a meeting with Ariel Sharon. “We know that Israel is striving for peace,” the Russian president told the Israeli prime minister in Moscow on Monday. Putin said the Jewish state has “suffered a lot in the past decades” and that Moscow would like to play an active role in an Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
