Baron Ernst von Weizsaecker, former Nazi diplomat, ##ll be released from Landsberg prison tomorrow by order of U.S. High Commissioner ##hn J. McCloy, after serving one-and-a-half years of a five-year sentence as a war criminal.
The sentence was commuted for “good behavior” and after Mr. McCloy’s office ##ceived numerous letters from persons in many countries attesting that the former ##zi official had protected many Jews and had attempted to alleviate the harshness ## the German occupation of Norway. Weizsaecker was convicted in Nuremberg of de##rting 6,000 Jews from France to Poland in 1942.
