Condemnation of the remarks of Dr. Hans Luther, German Ambassador to this country, on his return here Friday, was voiced by the American Jewish Committee and the American Jewish Congress in public statements.
In a statement by Morris D. Waldman, secretary of the American Jewish Committee, Ambassador Luther’s attempted justification of the Nazi revolution as aimed to save Germany from Communism is characterized as “consciously or unconsciously to draw a red herring across the trail of the very real and un-Christian persecution of the Jews of Germany that has been carried on under the name of a national resurgence.”
Analyzing Dr. Luther’s remarks on the Jewish situation and his statement that it is only an incident in the government program, Bernard S. Deutsch, president of the American Jewish Congress, points out that “Dr. Luther has done his government no service in the eyes of the public by the statement he issued on his arrival.”
Samuel Untermyer, in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, also strongly denounced Dr. Luther.
