Many American rabbis are growing increasingly concerned with “the flight of many Jews to resort areas during religious holidays,” it was reported here today by the Wall Street Journal. The major objection to the trend among many Jewish families to go to resort hotels which conduct High Holy Day services is, according to the paper, the view by some rabbis that the resort atmosphere is not conducive to meaningful worship.

Another consideration, the report said, is the effect of some synagogues, which derive a major proportion of their support from holiday seat rentals. The report said that a growing number of Jews see nothing wrong with combining a brief vacation with High Holy Day observance.
