Walter D. Heller, civic leader of San Francisco and a vice-president of the National Jewish Welfare Board, died here last Saturday at the age of 73. He also was actively associated with the United Jewish Appeal, the American Jewish Committee, the Joint Defense Appeal and the United Negro College Fund. Born in San Francisco in 1894, Mr. Heller was graduated from Stanford University in 1916.
Mr. Heller was a former president of JWB’s Western Region, of the San Francisco Jewish Community Center and of the Jewish Welfare Federation of San Francisco. He served on the board of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, the advisory council of the national executive board of the Boy Scouts of America and the USO. He was the recipient of a JWB 1964 Frank L. Weil Award.
