War Criminal Responsible for Mass Murder in Polish Town Sentenced to Death

George Paul Schmidt, one of leaders of the extermination program in Czenstochowa, who was found guilty of participating in the mass murder of hundreds of Jews there, was sentenced to death today by war crimes court.

A group of 58 war criminals has been repatriated from the Soviet Union to Poland and is expected to stand trial shortly. They were originally arrested by Soviet authorities in the Russian occupation zone of Germany.
