A number of Jewish war invalids and war widows of Piatra-Neamt, in Moldavia, have protested to King Carol against withdrawal of their alcohol and tobacco licenses. Dr. William Filderman, head of the dissolved Union of Rumanian Jews, has intervened on their behalf with the directorate of the State Monopoly. Leading Jewish circles here assert that reports published in New York that the Jewish position in Rumania has improved do not correspond with the facts. They also deny a report that Dr. Filderman was received by the Minister of Labor and discussed with him employment of Jews in public works.
