That Hungarian Jewry is heading for trouble in connection with the growth of Nazi influence in Hungary is the opinion expressed here today by Austrian Jewish observers.
Jewish leaders here are very much perturbed by the fact that the political changes in Hungary will add strength to the Nazis in Germany. This they fear will also affect the Jewish situation in Austria.
The Stimme, official organ of the Zionist Organization in Austria, today predicts serious times for the Jews in Hungary. The paper emphasizes the fact that Hungary will join the countries like Germany, the Saar and Danzig, where Jews are being persecuted.
“Renewed efforts should be made by Jewish leaders in London and in Geneva for opening Palestine and Transjordania for Jewish immigration,” the paper writes. “In view of the gravity of the Jewish situation in Europe, the differences now in the ranks of the Zionist party are simply criminal,” the Zionist organ declared.
