Polish Ambassador Edward Drozniak conferred today with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee headed by Jacob Blaustein and promised that rehabilitation plans for Warsaw would not affect the Gesia Street Jewish Cemetery.
Original plans called for a new main thoroughfare to cut through the cemetery, the oldest Jewish burial grounds in Warsaw. The plans evoked widespread Jewish protests. The Polish envoy said the new plans would not involve the cemetery in any way.
