THE WARSAW POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE WAS CLOSED FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD TODAY AND SEVERAL ARRESTS WERE MADE AT LWOW UNIVERSITY AS A RESULT OF AGITATION BY NATIONALIST STUDENTS FOR SEGREGATION OF JEWS INTO “GHETTO BENCHES.”
NATIONALISTS IN WARSAW CLASHED WITH JEWS IN ATTEMPTING TO FORCE THEM TO OCCUPY THE BENCHES ON THE LEFT SIDE OF CLASSROOMS AS ORDERED RECENTLY BY RECTORS AT THE AUTHORIZATION OF THE EDUCATION MINISTER. JEWISH STUDENTS WERE STANDING DURING LECTURES RATHER THAN OCCUPY THE “GHETTO SEATS.”
IN LWOW, NATIONALISTS BARRED THE ENTRANCE OF THE UNIVERSITY AND REFUSED TO ADMIT JEWS, DEMANDING OFFICIAL INTRODUCTION OF “GHETTO BENCHES.” TWO JEWS WERE BEATEN. THE RECTOR ORDERED REMOVAL OF POSTERS DEMANDING SEGREGATION.
REPORTS REACHED HERE TODAY OF ANTI-SEMITIC ATTACKS ON THE JEWISH HEALTH SOCIETY’S COLONY AT ZAMOSC, NEAR LUBLIN, IN WHICH SEVERAL CHILDREN WERE BADLY BEATEN.
